THE WAVE OFFERING

Introduction

ONE OF THE MANY OFFERINGS OF THE PHYSICAL NATION OF ISRAEL WAS THE WAVE OFFERING WHICH WAS WAVED BEFORE THE LORD.

MANY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BOTH THE WAVE SHEAF OFFERING CEREMONY WHICH WAS FULFILLED IN THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST AND HIS INITIAL ASCENSION BEFORE GOD THE FATHER TO PRESENT HIMSELF AND THE TWO WAVE LOAVES OFFERING CEREMONY WHICH IS FULFILLED IN THE DAY OF PENTECOST AND THE MARRIAGE SUPPER OF THE LAMB BY THOSE CALLED TO BECOME FIRSTFRUITS OF GOD.

THERE ARE TWO (2) SIGNIFICANT WAVE OFFERINGS IN THE BOOK OF LEVITICUS CHAPTER 23.

THE WAVE OFFERINGS ARE NOT FEAST DAYS TO BE CELEBRATED, BUT UNDERSTANDING THESE TWO (2) SIGNIFICANT WAVES OFFERINGS IS ESSENTIAL TO UNDERSTANDING THE ETERNAL PLAN OF SALVATION OF GOD FOR MAN.

1. THE WAVE SHEAF OFFERING: LEVITICUS 23:9-14
2. THE TWO WAVE LOAVES OFFERING: LEVITICUS 23:15-21

• WAS THE NATION OF ISRAEL REQUIRED TO OFFER THE WAVE OFFERING UNTO THE LORD?

THE WAVE OFFERINGS OF THE LORD WERE COMMANDED BY THE LORD GOD TO THE PHYSICAL NATION OF ISRAEL. 

THE HIGH PREIST OF AARON AND HIS SONS WERE RESPONSIBLE TO WAVE THESE WAVE OFFERINGS BEFORE THE LORD.

• WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE WAVE SHEAF OFFERING?

SINCE IT WAS THE FIRST HARVEST OF THE SPRING, BARLEY IS THE GRAIN ASSOCIATED WITH THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD, AND THE WAVE SHEAF AND THE FIRST FRUITS OFFERINGS. 

IT WAS TIED IN SHEAVES AND BROUGHT TO THE PRIEST TO BE ‘WAVED’ BEFORE THE LORD GOD AS THE FIRST FRUIT OF THE SPRING HARVEST.

THE WAVE SHEAF OFFERING IS NOT ONE OF THE FEASTS OF THE LORD OR AN ANNUAL SABBATH.

HOWEVER, UNDERSTANDING THE WAVE SHEAF OFFERING WILL US TO DETERMINE THE FOLLOWING:

1. THE TIMING OF THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST FROM THE DEAD.
2. THE TIMING OF THE FIRST ASCENSION OF JESUS CHRIST TO HEAVEN AFTER HIS RESURRECTION FROM THE DEAD.
3. THE TIMING OF THE COUNT OF THE FEAST OF WEEKS CALLED THE DAY OF PENTECOST.

THE WAVE SHEAF OFFERING WAS TRADITIONALLY HARVESTED WHEN THE TIME FOR THE CUTTING THE SHEAF OR PORTION OF THE FIRSTFRUIT OF THE HARVEST HAD ARRIVED DURING THE PASSOVER AND DAYS OF UNLEAVENED BREAD. 

THE WAVE SHEAF OR PORTION WAS CUT JUST AS THE SUN WENT DOWN ON THE FIRST WEEKLY SABBATH (SATURDAY EVENING JUST AFTER SUNSET) AT THE START OF THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK (SUNDAY) WHICH FOLLOWING THE PASSOVER AND THE FIRST DAY OF UNLEAVENED BREAD.

THE WAVE SHEAF WAS THEN WAVED BY THE PRIEST BEFORE THE LORD GOD TO BE ACCEPTED BY THE LORD GOD ON THE MORNING OF THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK (SUNDAY MORNING AROUND THE THIRD HOUR OR 9:00 AM).

JESUS CHRIST FULFILLED THE WAVE SHEAF OFFERING AFTER HIS RESURRECTION FROM THE DEAD IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS:

1. THE TIMING OF JESUS CHRIST RESURRECTION FORM THE DEAD WHICH WAS JUST AS THE SUN WENT DOWN (SATURDAY EVENING JUST AFTER SUNSET)) AT THE START OF THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK WHICH IS SUNDAY FOLLOWING THE PASSOVER AND THE FIRST DAY OF UNLEAVENED BREAD.

2. THE TIMING OF JESUS CHRIST FIRST ASCENSION AFTER HIS RESURRECTION FROM THE DEAD TO PRESENT HIMSELF BEFORE GOD THE FATHER TO BE ACCEPTED WHICH OCCURED ON THE MORNING OF THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK (SUNDAY MORNING AROUND THE THIRD HOUR OR 9:00AM).
