THE SABBATH AND JESUS CHRIST

Introduction

MANY FOLLOWERS OF JESUS CHRIST BELIEVE THAT BECAUSE JESUS CHRIST KEPT THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH REST THERE IS NO LONGER ANY REQUIREMENT TO KEEP THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH.

ADDITIONALLY, THERE ARE THOSE WHO KEEP THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH AND BELIEVE THAT THE SABBATH DAY REST IS A TIME FOR ONLY PHYSICAL REST FROM OUR LABOURS DURING THE FIRST SIX DAYS OF THE WEEK AND THEN TO GATHER IN ASSEMBLING OURSELVES TOGETHER TO COLLECTIVELY WORSHIP GOD ACCORDING TO THE COMMANDMENT.

JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONLY ONE WHO REVEALED THE TRUE PURPOSE OF THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH AND HOW IT SHOULD BE KEPT AND THEREFORE WE MUST BELIEVE WHAT HE SAYS ABOUT THE SABBATH AND WHAT HE DID ON THE SABBATH DAY IN THE GOSPELS.

JESUS CHRIST TAUGHT THAT THE SABBATH REST WAS ACTUALLY A TIME FOR THE SPIRITUAL WORKS OF GOD THE FATHER IN PROMOTING THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN ON THE EARTH, AND NOT JUST A TIME FOR PHYSICAL REST AND DO NOTHING.

MANY QUOTE THE VERSE IN PSALM 118:24 “THIS IS THE DAY WHICH THE LORD HAS MADE; WE SHALL REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT”, TO MEAN EVERY DAY IS OF EQUAL SIGNIFICANCE TO THE LORD AND IT DOES NOT MATTER TO GOD WHICH DAY WE GATHER TO WORSHIP HIM.   

THE ONLY DAY WHICH THE LORD HAD MADE FOR MAN WAS THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH  BY RESTING AND PUTTING HIS HOLY PRESENCE IN THAT REOCCURRING SEVENTH DAY TIME SLOT.

WHY DID JESUS SAY HE WAS THE LORD OF THE SABBATH?

THE QUESTION OF WHICH DAY IS THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH WAS NOT THE QUESTION JESUS CHRIST HAD TO ADDRESS WITH THOSE WHO CONFRONTED HIM ABOUT THE SABBATH. 

JESUS CHRIST HAD TO ADDRESS THE HOW TO KEEP THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH TIME WITH THOSE WHO CONFRONTED HIM, BECAUSE THEY WERE ALREADY KEEPING THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH ON THE RIGHT DAY UNDER THE OLD COVENANT LAW OF MOSES AND THE PROPHETS.

THE SPIRIT BEHIND THE PHARISEES WAS ONE THAT WAS ALWAYS LOOKING TO SEE WHAT WAS BEING DONE WRONG ON THE SABBATH DAY AND NOT WHAT PERSONS WERE DOING RIGHT.

WHEN JESUS WAS CONFRONTED BY THE PHARISEES ABOUT THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH WHAT DID HE ADDRESS?

  • HE DID NOT HAVE TO ADDRESS: WHICH DAY IS THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH; BECAUSE THE PHARISEES WERE STRICT IN THE LAW OF MOSES AND KNEW WHICH DAY IS THE SEVETH DAY.
  • HE HAD TO ADDRESS: HOW TO KEEP THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH IN THE SPIRIT AND NOT IN THE LETTER.

JESUS FOCUS ON THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH IN CONTRAST TO THE PHARISEES AND WAS ON WHAT WAS LAWFUL TO BE DONE ON THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH AS HE DID SPIRITUAL WORKS OF GOD THE FATHER.

THE PHARISEES FOCUS WAS ALWAYS ABOUT WHAT WAS NOT LAWFUL TO BE KEPT; WHILE JESUS CHRIST FOCUS WAS ON WHAT IS LAWFUL TO BE DONE.

  4. A TIME OF DELIVERANCE FROM THE BONDAGE OF SATAN AND THIS PRESENT EVIL WORLD.

THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH TIME IS NOT A TIME TO BE KEPT BY AVOIDING DOING ANYTHING WRONG, BUT A TIME FOR TO BE KEPT BY DOING GOOD – THE WORKS OF GOD THE FATHER.

JESUS CHRIST KEPT THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH BY DOING THE SPIRITUAL WORKS OF THE FATHER.

  • WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH AND THE NEW COVENANT?

THE WORDS ON THE TWO TABLES OF STONE CALLED THE TABLES OF THE COVENANT ARE THE WORDS OF THE NEW THE COVENANT WHICH IS THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. 

THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST WAS CARRIED INTO THE MOST HOLY PLACE OF THE PHYSICAL TEMPLE (WHICH WAS PRESENT AT JESUS DEATH ON THE CROSS) BY THE HOLY SPIRIT, WHO WAS ALSO CALLED “THE ETERNAL SPIRIT”, TO SEAL THE NEW COVENANT WORDS – THE TEN COMMANDMENTS ON THE TABLES OF THE COVENANT.

THE NEW COVENANT CHURCH OF GOD KEPT THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH ACCORDING TO THE REQUIREMENT OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

IN THE BOOK OF ACTS OF THE APOSTLES WE SEE THE NEW COVENANT OF CHURCH OF GOD STILL KEEPING THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH AS COMMANDED IN THE TEN COMMANDMENTS AND WAS THE EXAMPLE OF JESUS CHRIST. 

WHICH GENTILES WERE CALLED UNDER THE NEW COVENANT IN CHRIST JESUS?

MANY BELIEVE THAT THE GENTILES WHO THE APOSTLE PAUL TURN TO WERE THOSE WHO JUST CAME TO CHRIST AND WERE NOT KEEPING THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH IN THE TEN COMMANDMENTS UNDER THE LAW OF MOSES AND THE PROPHETS.

THERE WERE GENTILES IN THE CONGREGATION IN THE JEWISH SYNAGOGUE IN THE GENTILE CITIES ALSO ADHERING TO THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT OF KEEPING THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH UNDER THE LAW OF MOSES AND THE PROPHETS. 

THE CITY OF ANTIOCH IN PISIDIA WAS A GENTILE CITY UNDER ROMAN RULE DURING THE TIME OF THE APOSTLE PAUL.

BOTH THE JEWS AND THE GENTILE GREEKS WORSHIPPED IN THE SYNAGOGUE ON THE SABBATH DAY.

  • WILL THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH CONTINUE TO BE A REQUIREMENT AFTER JESUS CHRIST RETURNS TO THE EARTH?

THE SABBATH WAS MADE AFTER MAN WSA MADE AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE REQUIRED UNTIL THE DISPENSATION OF MAN COMES TO AN END WITH THE NEW HEAVENS AND NEW EARTH.

THE PROPHET ISAIAH PROPHESIED THAT EVEN AFTER JESUS CHRIST RETURN THAT ALL FLESH WILL COME BEFORE CHRIST AND WORSHIP HIM.

JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN TEACH US HOW TO KEEP THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH.

THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH IS A TIME TO DO THE SPIRITUAL WORKS OF GOD THE FATHER IN PROMOTING THE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN AND NOT JUST A TIME FOR PHYSICAL REST AND AVOIDING DOING SOMETHING WRONG.

FOLLOWING THE EXAMPLE OF JESUS CHRIST ON THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH WILL DEEPEN OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN AND PREPARE US FOR THE RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST.

THE SABBATH DAY SEPARATES US FROM THE WORLD AND IDENTIFIES US WITH THE TRUE CHRIST OF THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.

THE SABBATH DAY IS A TIME TO DO THE SPIRITUAL WORKS OF GOD THE FATHER IN HEAVEN AS WE ARE LED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.
